Oat-vernight treats and dairy good sweets await
Sunday’s Best is a catering business based in Detroit, Michigan. The brand focuses on delivering locally sourced, high-quality meals with bold, flavorful taste. I designed new food labels for their pre-packaged items sold at Eastern Market.
The labels
Here is a look at the final labels flattened out for digital viewing. The final label was designed as a one sticker solution that folds over the plastic packaging that lets the food be the hero.
Labels designed for success
When I initially started creating new label designs, I had to decide what would be the best way to execute them not only for visual design purposes, but also for the way the consumer would interact with it. I created three different label iterations:
1) a one sticker solution that would sit on the top of the plastic packaging container that featured the item name and nutrition info together.
2) a one sticker solution that would wrap around the opening of the container starting at the top with the item name, and ending at the bottom with nutrition info.
3) a two sticker solution with the top featuring the item name and the bottom featuring nutrition information.

iteration 2
iteration 3
We selected the second iteration for several reasons. It was the most cost-effective option because it used a single sticker. The barcode could be placed on the bottom, eliminating the need for customers to flip the container and potentially disrupt the presentation. Additionally, the label was compact enough to avoid covering the product, allowing the food itself to remain the focal point.

Patterns
Because Sunday’s Best had minimal existing branding, I had creative freedom to develop label designs that complemented their current look. The owners requested a black-and-white color scheme and were open to incorporating icons or illustrations. I created a set of patterns to use across the labels, giving the brand a more defined visual identity. The illustration style was inspired by what I like to call classic kitchen decor—simple, one-color line illustrations on a black or white background.
