Oat-vernight treats and dairy good sweets await!
Sunday's Best is a catering business located in Detroit Michigan. Their focus is on bringing local residents food with divine taste that makes you look stunning and feel miraculous. They vow to put their heart and soul in to each an every recipe, and pride   I had the pleasure of designing new food labels for their pre-packaged items to be sold in Eastern Market.
The Labels
Here is a look at the final labels flattened out for digital viewing. The final label was designed as a one sticker solution that folds over the plastic packaging that lets the food be the hero.
Labels Designed for Success
When I initially started creating new label designs, I had to decide what would be the best way to execute them not only for visual design purposes, but also for the way the consumer would interact with it. I created three different label iterations:
1) a one sticker solution that would sit on the top of the plastic packaging container that featured the item name and nutrition info together.
2) a one sticker solution that would wrap around the opening of the container starting at the top with the item name,  and ending at the bottom with nutrition info.
3) a two sticker solution with the top featuring the item name and the bottom featuring nutrition information.

We ultimately ended up going with the 2nd iteration for a few different reasons. First, we felt it would be more cost effective since it is a one sticker solution. Second, the barcode would site on the bottom which would not make consumers have to flip over their container to scan it, ultimately resulting in a ruined food presentation. Finally, it was small enough that it did not cover the contents of the container and really allowed the food to be the hero or show stopper.
Patterns
Since Sunday's Best has very minimal branding, I was allowed creative freedom to create labels that would work with what they currently had. The owners of Sunday's Best expressed that they wanted to keep the labels in a black and white color scheme, but thought it might be interesting to experiment with icons or illustration somewhere. Below, I created the following patterns to use for these labels and to give the Sunday's Best brand a little more of a visual identity to work with.
The inspiration for these illustration came from what I like to call "classy kitchen decor." This is often towels, plates, or other kitchen items that feature one color line illustrations on a white or black background.
